City launches Water Meter Upgrade Program

It’s time to ride the wave of new water meter technology!

The City of Lethbridge has launched the three-year Water Meter Upgrade Program to replace outdated meters in approximately 10,000 households. The new meters are designed to enhance efficiency in several ways:

  • Streamlining information collection;
  • Reducing the need for staff to access properties for future meter readings;
  • Reducing missed reads;
  • Providing more accurate and predictable billing.

“The program isn’t just about enhancing efficiency, it’s about delivering a better service to residents,” says Leanne Lammertsen, Water and Wastewater Operations Manager. “We understand change can be daunting, but we are committed to making this work convenient and as accessible as possible.”

Targeted meter exchanges are being rolled out neighbourhood-by-neighbourhood, beginning on the west side with Indian Battle Heights and Copperwood. Households that require a new meter can expect to see a door hanger and digital messaging through the Lethbridge Loop app in the leadup to their replacement. The Lethbridge Loop app is available for free download on Apple and Android devices.

“We encourage residents to make the most of the wide range of appointment slots, offered every day of the week. The replacement procedure can be completed in under 30 minutes,” says Lammertsen.

To schedule your appointment, or for more information about the Water Meter Upgrade Program, you can call or chat with 311 Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
