City's annual milling and paving program starts this week

Construction season is revving up this week as the City of Lethbridge’s Transportation Operations department starts its annual road milling and paving program.

Each year, the City works to improve road conditions around the city through its milling and paving program. This work is completed in phases to decrease costs and impacts to the community and keep traffic flowing.

The annual program is broken into three steps:

  1. Tree pruning and concrete repairs (if necessary): Before road construction begins, crews might be present to repair curbs and sidewalks and prune trees along the roadway. This work is done before milling and paving to keep the newly paved road smooth and intact.
  2. Milling: Crews will remove the existing asphalt from a section of road to prepare it for new asphalt.
  3. Paving: Crews will apply new asphalt to create a smooth driving surface for residents and motorists.

Unless otherwise indicated below, construction will take place in both directions of the affected road.

Motorists, especially motorcyclists, are urged to drive with caution as road surfaces will be uneven following milling. Motorists are thanked for following detours, posted signage and slowing down in construction areas helps to keep both motorists and staff and contractors safe.

The project is available on the City’s WebMap for further information. The WebMap is a dynamic online platform designed to enhance accessibility and streamline information for residents. The map provides residents with accurate and up-to-date information on road closures, facility closures and city projects and initiatives.
