Construction underway at Great Bear Boulevard
Construction has started on a temporary gravel access road connecting Great Bear Boulevard West to Metis Trail West.
The emergency access gravel roadway follows approximately the same alignment as the existing outline plan roadway of Great Bear Boulevard and connects directly to the existing gravel roadway along 25 Street/Metis Trail West.
The purpose of the project is to improve emergency response times, provide redundant access for Fire Station 5 and support equitable service delivery to growing neighbourhoods such as Copperwood, Crossings, Garry Station and Country Meadows. This construction should have relatively low impact on residents and the surrounding community.
In December 2025, City Council approved the project’s estimated cost of $315,000, funded through the Major Capital Projects Reserve (MCPR).
Once constructed, the Transportation department will cover operating and maintenance costs as part of its existing operating budget. This will continue until a developer proceeds with permanent roadways and infrastructure as part of their residential development phasing, as shown in the Watermark Outline Plan.
Further background on the project is available on our website.
