Cool upgrades will modernize Henderson Ice Centre

Big changes are coming to the Henderson Ice Centre.

A two-phased construction project will improve functionality and accessibility. The upgrades will bring the Centre, which was built in 1975, into a more modern era.

"We’ve planned the construction in phases so essential upgrades can happen with minimal impacts to our community programs," explains Jace Adams, Facilities Project Manager. "We’re balancing short-term usability with lasting improvements."

Phase one, underway this spring, includes four new dressing rooms in the south end of the building. Each dressing room includes private bathroom and shower facilities. Phase two is scheduled for a spring 2026 start and includes:

  • Changing the location of the front doors and expanding the lobby.
  • Renovating the existing washrooms and change rooms.
  • Updating the officials' room.

The improvements will make Henderson Ice Centre more welcoming and useful for the entire community.

“Investing in inclusive, accessible recreation spaces is central to our vision for a vibrant Lethbridge,” adds Robin Harper, GM of Recreation and Culture. “We’re creating an environment where athletes, spectators and officials can come together to stay active, build connections and have fun.”

Expected completion of the project is late summer of 2026. The renovations are part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program 2022–2031 (Project D-17). Find more project information and updates on the Get Involved Lethbridge page.
