Council Highlights June 23, 2026
- Lethbridge City Council voted unanimously approved its 2027 Operating Budget. Read the full news release here
- Council unanimously approved an Official Business Motion from Mayor Hyggen to approve up to $1,500 from Council Contingencies to the Lethbridge Twinning Society for the purposes of hosting the Sister City delegation from Culver City, California, from July 6-10
- Council voted 7-2 to pass a recommendation of Community Issues Committee (CIC) to 1. direct Administration to oversee the grant funding and application process for Budget Initiatives N-28, Mitigate the Feral Cat Problem and N-29, Non-Veterinary Funding for Animal Rescue; 2. Dissolve the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) by rescinding the Terms of Reference, as this advisory committee is inactive and no longer required in its current structure; and 3. Support Administration in continuing to utilize various community engagement methods on issues related to animal welfare
- Council voted 8-1 in favour of a Committee Submission and recommendation of CIC on Capital Budget Workshop 2027-2036 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) (ATIA Section 29)
- Bylaw 6527 - Amendment to Bylaw 4890 - The Galt Museum & Archives Bylaw unanimously carried second and third readings
- Bylaw 6532 – Amendment to Bylaw 3250 - The Sewerage Service Charge Bylaw unanimously carried second and third readings
- After being pulled from Consent Agenda, Bylaw 6524 – Amendment to Bylaw 6088 - London Road Area Redevelopment Plan carried first reading. A Public Hearing is set for July 28 at 3 p.m.
- The following recommendations from CIC were carried:
- CC-82 Service Level Policy
- 2026-27 Low Income Transit Program (LITP) Grant Funding
- 2026 Airport Workplan Update
- Bylaw 6526 – Land Use Bylaw Amendment re 550 and 554 W T Hill Blvd S for first reading. A Public Hearing is set for July 28 at 3 p.m.
- Bylaw 6529- Land Use Bylaw Amendment re: 1220 30 St W for first reading. A Public Hearing is set for July 14 at 3 p.m.
- Bylaw 6534 – Wastewater Treatment Plant Train 2 – 20 ML/D Expansion for first reading
