Crosswalk work to temporarily close 600 Block of 4 Avenue

The block of 4 Avenue South between 6 Street and 7 Street in Downtown Lethbridge will have a short-term closure due to crosswalk work from October 2-4.

During those days, our contractor will be completing removal of the last remaining brick crosswalk at the intersection of 4 Avenue and 6 Street.

During this construction phase, access to the businesses in this area can be routed through the laneway and street parking will be available. The City will also post signage at the intersection to help customers navigate.

Thank you to all the Downtown businesses, as well their customers, for their continued patience throughout this construction project.

Stakeholders have been and will continue to be updated regularly throughout the project. We understand that construction projects can be disruptive, but we are committed to completing this infrastructure project efficiently and with the least inconvenience possible. Upon completion of work in each area, traffic detours and barricades will be removed and traffic flow will return to normal.

A reminder that the intersection at 4 Avenue and 7 Street remains closed for ongoing work.

Additionally, 7 Street South between 5 Avenue and 6 Avenue is closed to facilitate watermain renewal work, followed by surface improvements. The closure is expected to be in place until October 31, weather pending. Traffic flow will remain uninterrupted on 5 Avenue and 6 Avenue during the course of the work.

Further project background is here.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and observe the on-site posted speed and all other construction signs and posted detours.
