Donating Surplus Assets
The City of Lethbridge is committed to responsible stewardship of public resources. When equipment, materials, or other assets are no longer required for municipal operations, we look for opportunities to extend their useful life in ways that benefit the broader community.
Donating surplus assets supports the community while reducing waste and maximizing the value of taxpayer funded goods. Through a fair and transparent process, the City ensures that eligible items are made available to groups who can put them to meaningful use.
This page serves as a central, public location for City surplus assets that are available for donation.
Available Assets
Surplus assets approved for donation will be posted on here for a minimum of four weeks.
Streetcar Tracks
May 21, 2026
There are six groupings of streetcar tracks available. The tracks are aged and many are incomplete. They were all removed from 3 Avenue South during an infrastructure project in 2020 and 2021.
The smallest piece is approximately 24 inches long. The longest piece is approximately 120 inches long.
Did you know that Lethbridge used to have a streetcar system? It was in operation from 1912 to 1947 and buried under the road around 1949.
In 2020, during the 3 Avenue South reconstruction project, part of the track system was revealed. Watch the video below to learn more about the streetcars rich and humorous history in downtown Lethbridge.
