Emergency Medical Services continue without change

Lethbridge residents will see no change in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when the contract between the City of Lethbridge and Emergency Health Services (EHS) – Alberta ends September 30. Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services (LFES) will maintain its full scope of integrated Fire & EMS services while work continues to find a sustainable solution for Lethbridge. 

The City has been actively involved in and is awaiting the results of a third-party review of the EHS benchmark rate. This report is expected at the end of September, and the City will carefully consider these findings to determine how it will impact decisions moving forward.

The City continues to work with the Government of Alberta and EHS to explore all options that would allow LFES to continue delivering EMS, either through a future procurement process or by negotiating a new agreement.

While discussions and reviews continue, the City is also doing their due diligence by working collaboratively with EHS to ensure any potential transition to a new provider would occur safely and prepare for all potential outcomes.

Residents can be reassured that emergency services will continue to be available when needed and responsible planning continues, working closely with provincial partners to find the best long-term solution for Lethbridge.
