Expanded scale house at Waste and Recycling Centre fully open

Customers visiting the Waste and Recycling Centre can now come and go twice as efficiently.

As one of the City’s busiest and most relied-upon facilities, the landfill has seen steady growth in customer visits year-round, with higher volumes during peak periods. To manage increased traffic and reduce congestion, the City of Lethbridge has introduced new scale infrastructure designed to better serve customers now and into the future.

“This upgrade will significantly improve how traffic moves through the site,” says Mark Molesky, Waste Engineer. “Now that all lanes are open during peak times, all customers should notice smoother flow and shorter wait times.”

The scale house now features two inbound and two outbound lanes and scales – doubling the previous capacity. Less vehicle queueing on-site not only enhances safety, but also reduces vehicle idling, supporting the City’s commitment to efficient, environmentally-responsible operations. The new scale house also improves customer experience by providing an onsite washroom for customers.

Disposal processes, customers’ fees and accepted materials remain unchanged.

This project was approved and funded through the City of Lethbridge Capital Improvement Program.
