Feedback sought for future of 5 Street South Downtown
With the need for infrastructure upgrades, the City of Lethbridge has started a preliminary design plan for 5 Street South between 1 Avenue South and 6 Avenue South in Downtown Lethbridge.
As Lethbridge’s historic main street, this project proposes transforming the area into a vibrant, connected urban space that enhances both functionality and community experience.
We want you to tell us about your priorities for the future of 5 Street South. Residents can participate by:
- Completing the online survey
- Visiting us at the Community Conversation, Thursday, January 29, 2026, 3-7 p.m. at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, to review concept designs and provide feedback in person
This proposed project, part of the 2022 to 2031 Capital Improvement Program (project D-41), is in the preliminary design phase. A preliminary design is the first step in planning future infrastructure improvements. It focuses on overall layout, feasibility and gathering feedback from business owners and community members.
This early-stage plan is not final and does not authorize construction. These elements simply lay the foundation for the next phases – detailed design and construction – which would proceed only after City Council approval and funding are secured.
Key activities in the preliminary design phase include engaging stakeholders and the public, enhancing safety, improving public spaces and estimating costs.
