First phase of scale house reopening begins this weekend

The new scale house at the Waste and Recycling Centre is preparing to welcome its first customers tomorrow, January 10.

Construction of the upgraded scales has been taking place since June 16. Now, as the project nears completion, the new scale house will reopen in three phases.

Weather permitting, these phases are expected to be completed as follows:

Phase 1 – January 10-12
  • One inbound lane of the new scales will be open and in use.
  • The existing temporary outbound scale and alternate exit will still be in effect.
Phase 2 – January 12-15
  • One inbound and outbound lane of the new scales will be open and in use.
  • Traffic patterns at the Waste and Recycling Centre will return to normal.
Phase 3 – January 17
  • All four lanes (two inbound and two outbound) of the new scales will be open and in use.
  • Customers can observe signage to see which lanes are open.
  • Minor delays may still occur.

Once fully open, the new scale house will make it twice as fast for customers to access waste, recycling and organics services.

Customers are reminded to slow down and drive with caution as crews wrap up construction.
