Heavy load trucks temporarily restricted on westbound Whoop-Up Drive

Effective immediately, heavy load trucks (excluding standard pickups) are temporarily restricted from crossing westbound on Whoop-Up Drive. All heavy load trucks must use Highway 3 until further notice. The restriction is being made out of an abundance of caution, to prevent any further damage.

The measure is in place due to the incident involving a flatbed trailer carrying heavy equipment that struck the underside of the Whoop-Up Drive bridge on August 6. Support pillars remain in place under the bridge while engineers and crews continue to assess the damage and determine next steps.

Eastbound traffic is not further impacted by this restriction.

During the bridge rehabilitation work on Whoop-Up Drive, and subsequent incident on August 6, several incidents have been reported around unsafe driving in the work areas. While we understand the slowdown is an inconvenience, we are asking drivers to please respect each other’s safety by following reduced speed limits and construction signage.

There is also increased traffic volume on westbound Highway 3. Motorists are asked to drive with extra caution as we adjust to these fluid situations. The end goal is the same for all of us: to arrive at our destinations safely. We thank you for your cooperation.

Live traffic cameras are available online to help motorists monitor their route, including both Whoop-Up Drive and Highway 3.
