Help reimagine the future for 5 Street South

The City of Lethbridge is in the early stages of planning improvements to 5 Street South, between 1 Avenue South and 6 Avenue South. Known for its historic charm and vibrant local businesses, this downtown corridor is ready to be reimagined — and we want your input!

The community is invited to share ideas and feedback to help shape the future of 5 Street South. The public survey includes questions about what elements matter most, parking considerations, and popular themes. The survey will close on August 26, 2025 and results will be considered in the next stages of the planning process.

Preliminary Planning

The Reimagine 5 Street South project is currently in the Preliminary Design phase, with no construction planned yet. Right now, the City is:

• Conducting environmental and geotechnical assessments
• Gathering public feedback on priorities and opportunities
• Defining the project scope, design, budget, and timeline for future Council review

The Preliminary Plan will help guide future decisions during future infrastructure or roadway upgrades, and when considering features or amenities that improve functionality, accessibility, and overall vibrancy. This planning project is expected to be complete in 2026. 

What’s next?

Success depends on strong community involvement to ensure the design reflects what the community wants and needs. The 5 Street South Project Liason Group, individuals from local businesses, property owners, and residents, has been established to provide input on challenges, options, and gathering local perspectives. As the more details become available, the community can find information online or give feedback by attending a pop-up or open house event.
