Improvements are coming to Popson Park

Popson Park is a local favourite for outdoor fun in Lethbridge. Whether you're launching a boat, letting your dog run free in the off-leash area or just soaking in the river views, it’s a go-to spot. But if you’ve stopped by during busy times, you’ve likely run into one common issue: parking.

The park has two gravel lots. On high-traffic days, they fill up fast - leading to visitor frustration, roadside parking where it shouldn’t happen and safety risks for both pedestrians and drivers.

To help make visits smoother and safer, the City of Lethbridge is stepping in. Starting October 20, crews will begin work to expand both parking areas. The project will include:

  • More parking spaces to handle larger crowds
  • Better signage to guide traffic and improve flow
  • New accessible spots to make sure everyone can enjoy the park

To get the work done quickly and safely, the park will be closed to the public starting October 20. If all goes to plan (and the weather cooperates), it will reopen on November 17.

Thanks for your patience while we make these improvements. Once finished, your next visit to Popson Park should be easier, safer and even more enjoyable - whether you’re out for a paddle, a picnic or a playful afternoon with your pup!
