Lethbridge enhances firefighting capabilities with Wildland Sprinkler Trailer
The purchase of a new Wildland Sprinkler Trailer marks a significant investment in the City of Lethbridge’s wildfire response capabilities.
The equipment, valued at $137,000, enhances Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) fire suppression efforts, particularly in vulnerable river valley areas.
Equipped with multiple water pumps, hoses, sprinkler heads and built-in storage, the Wildland Sprinkler Trailer will enable LFES to deploy a comprehensive firefighting strategy in the face of wildfire threats. This equipment will bolster the flexibility and resources necessary to protect the community and natural environment in and around Lethbridge.
“Our mission is to protect lives, property and the environment, and this new equipment will help us achieve that,” says Greg Adair, Chief of Fire and EMS with LFES. “The Wildland Sprinkler Trailer is a tool that enhances our operational readiness.”
“The acquisition marks a step forward in our firefighting capabilities. This equipment will allow us to deploy more effective and strategic responses to wildfires that threaten critical infrastructure,” says Wes Borland, Deputy Chief with LFES.
The need for enhanced wildfire response capabilities has become increasingly urgent as wildfires have become more frequent and intense across the province. Lethbridge’s river valley is particularly vulnerable during the dry season due to the limited fire hydrant availability and the challenges of deploying conventional firefighting equipment on steep terrain. The new Wildland Sprinkler Trailer will provide a line of defence in preserving this priceless natural area, critical infrastructure and adjacent residential areas from imminent wildfires.
Residents can expect to see LFES crews training with the new Wildland Sprinkler Trailer as they familiarize themselves with the equipment’s capabilities. This hands-on training is essential to ensure that firefighters are fully prepared to quickly deploy the trailer during wildfire emergencies.
The new Wildland Line Sprinkler Trailer is another example of LFES’ dedication to adopting technologies and innovative solutions to better protect our community. The investment aligns with LFES’ strategic goal of enhancing emergency response capabilities. By continuously seeking ways to improve its services, the department is committed to ensuring the highest standard of public safety.
