Lethbridge to honour fallen firefighters at annual memorial

During the annual Fallen Firefighters Memorial Parade and Ceremony on Friday, September 11, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services will honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The annual memorial provides an opportunity to remember firefighters, and other uniformed personnel, who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It also recognizes the service, dedication and sacrifice of those who continue to serve their communities. 

The memorial parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Station #1, 207 4 Avenue South. Led by the Honour Guard and Pipe Band, uniformed members will march east along 4 Avenue South through downtown to Southminster United Church, where the memorial ceremony will follow. 

The parade and ceremony will bring together volunteer and career firefighters, police officers, sheriffs, correctional officers and representatives from federal, provincial and municipal governments. 

Lethbridge Police Service members will temporarily block intersections along 4 Avenue South as the parade moves through downtown. Motorists should expect brief traffic delays and are asked to follow the direction of officers in the area. 

The memorial is open to the public. Community members are welcome to attend and join uniformed personnel in paying tribute to those who lost their lives in service to others.
