Lethbridge water named the best of the west!

Quench your thirst with the best tasting water in the west! Of nine competing cities and municipalities, Lethbridge was crowned the winner of the best tasting water at the 2022 American Water Works Association (AWWA) Western Canadian conference in September 2022.

Lethbridge water was determined to be number 1, followed by the municipality of Jasper, Alberta and the town of St. Paul, Alberta.

What's the secret to the best tasting water? Doug Kaupp, General Manager Water & Wastewater, says it's because our team operating the treatment plant ensures they are putting out the best quality water for the city.

"I contribute our success to both our capable treatment plant and our awesome plant staff," says Kaupp.

Water tests are conducted multiple times a day, adding up to nearly 32,000 tests on treated water per year. Regular testing ensures the water quality is maintained, and is primed for consumption.

Tyler Bennett, Water & Waste Water Treatment Engineer, says that providing this critical service to the city is a privilege and the crews reflect that in their output of work and job pride.

"Our operational staff work diligently 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure excellent drinking water quality for our residents and other customers. We take pride in our work, and are grateful for the opportunity to provide this service to the community."

Other competing locations in the taste test included EPCOR's Edmonton Water Treatment Plant, City of Calgary, Municipal District of Opportunity No. 17 – Sandy Lake, City of Prince Albert, City of Selkirk, and Buffalo Pound. Lethbridge was also the winning city in 2016
