New alternating turn signals coming to north Lethbridge

Drivers will soon notice a new traffic pattern at 13 Street North and 9 Avenue North. The City of Lethbridge is adding alternating left‑turn arrows on 13 Street North, a feature that has not previously existed at this intersection.

With this setup, only one direction will receive a flashing green left-‑turn arrow at a time. Northbound traffic will get the protected turn in one signal cycle, and southbound drivers will receive it in the next. This approach creates a clear, predictable opportunity for each direction to turn left while helping vehicles move through the intersection more efficiently.

The updated signals will be activated on the morning of February 26. Once in place, the alternating left‑turn arrows will run during these times:

  • Weekdays: 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Weekends: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

No delays or disruptions to motorists are expected during the changeover.

A similar system was introduced at 13 Street North and 5 Avenue North in March 2025, where it has helped improve traffic flow. This will be the second intersection in the area to use alternating left‑turn signals.
