New one-way traffic controls support safety in the Fleetwood neighbourhood

The City of Lethbridge is making changes to the traffic flow in the Fleetwood neighbourhood that will improve the safety of students, families, and residents who use the area. One-way traffic flow changes will take effect on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

As the start of another school year brings more traffic to the area, all road users are advised to be aware of the changes and plan their driving routes accordingly.

What is changing?

The changes will see 11 and 12 Street South between 9 and 10 Avenue South converted into one-way streets. In the aerial image below, the red arrows indicate the changes.

  • 11 Street South to change to one-way traffic going southbound
  • 12 Street South to change to one-way traffic going northbound

What are the benefits of making these changes?

After receiving supportive feedback from residents and stakeholders in the area, the City of Lethbridge is moving forward with the changes to improve safety and reduce congestion in this area. Making these changes will mean:

  • Improved safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, particularly residents, students and parents.
  • Improved flow of traffic and ease for on-street parking.
  • Improved pick-up and drop-off of students at Fleetwood Bawden Elementary School.

Signage is in place along the affected streets and will remain approximately two weeks after the changes are made. Motorists, residents and visitors to the area are advised to stay alert as new traffic directions come into effect on these streets.
