Nominate your mighty neighbour - Super Summer Edition!
The City of Lethbridge is excited to bring back the Mighty Neighbour: Super Summer Edition, and nominations are officially open!
This cheerful community campaign celebrates the unsung heroes among us-the neighbours whose small but might actions help make our neighbourhoods friendlier, safer and more welcoming for everyone.
“After a successful launch in 2024, we continued the program through the summer and again this past winter,” says Heather Gowland, Transportation Communications Strategist with the City of Lethbridge. “We saw firsthand how much people appreciate their neighbours, so we knew we had to keep it going another year.”
This summer, the campaign shines a spotlight on everyday actions that make a big difference; picking up litter, cleaning out local gutters, and being a responsible pet owner. Returning this summer, the inspiring characters include Lena the Litter Legend, Poop-Scoopin' Penny, and Gavin the Gutter-Buddy in his new summer look.
“Summer tends to bring out the best in community spirit,” says Ashley Walker, Parks Community Coordinator. “It’s the perfect time to highlight the small acts of kindness that help our neighbourhoods thrive. We’ve added a new character -Gavin the Gutter-Buddy, for those neighbours who help keep storm drains clear of leaves and trash to reduce water pollution.”
Nominations are open now through the end of September. To nominate a Mighty Neighbour, simply visit lethbridge.ca/MightyNeighbours or share your story in person at Environment Blitz Day, this evening. Whether it’s picking up trash on their morning walk, clearing the gutters of debris, or picking up after their dog to keep the neighbourhood smelling fresh, nominate someone whose neighbourly efforts deserve recognition.
Each month a nomination will be randomly selected, giving the nominator a chance to share their story with local news and on the City’s social media channels. Plus, the nominator will receive a small gift of recognition to share with their nominee.
“We look forward to hearing about the everyday heroes who make their neighbourhoods mighty good places to live-one good deed at a time.” says Walker.
