River Valley fire ban remains in effect – heat and low humidity increase wildfire risk

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services reminds residents that a River Valley fire ban remains in effect due to elevated wildfire risk from forecasted heat and low humidity. The fire ban applies to all open fires within the River Valley and will stay in place until further notice.

With vegetation already dry, and conditions expected to worsen, the risk for fire ignition and rapid spread is extremely high. Even small sparks from discarded smoking materials, campfires or fireworks can trigger serious fires.

Residents are urged to:

  • Avoid all open fires in the River valley, including campfires and fire pits.
  • Dispose of smoking materials properly – never on the ground or out of vehicle windows.
  • Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.

Everyone is asked to remain vigilant and do their part to prevent wildfires and protect our community.
