Got thoughts about snow route plowing, windrows or other City winter services? Don’t worry - we can handle the cold truth!

At the June 10, 2025, meeting, Lethbridge City Council voted to continue the snow and ice pilot program for another year. The phased pilot began in Winter 2022/2023.

Transportation would like to hear from the community about the City’s plowing services provided along snow routes. A community survey is now live, capturing feedback on things like:

  • plowing snow and ice to the right
  • city-wide snow route network
  • subscription-based Windrow Assistance Service (WAS)

Residents living along the snow route network who face mobility barriers with snow removal, are eligible to join the WAS. The program creates an opening along the curb or driveway after roads are plowed. The 2024/2025 winter season only had one snow event warranting a snow route declaration. And, so far this year, there has only been one activation. So, while snow can present some challenges, a few more dumps this winter could actually provide important data for the pilot project.

The community survey closes on March 22, 2026. Submissions will help shape plans for next winter. Feedback will also be included in a report to Council this spring on the results of the four-year Snow and Ice Control Service Level trial.

Further background, including feedback from previous survey results, can be found on the Snow Control Service Level Changes page on Get Involved Lethbridge.
