‘Snow’ way we’re talking about winter: snow route windrow assistance sign-up opens today
While sunny weather is still beaming down on us, the City of Lethbridge is getting ready for winter operations and asking snow route residents to prepare.
If you live on a snow route, you’ll get a postcard in early September with information about snow routes and the Windrow Assistance Service (WAS):
- Learn about snow routes and parking restrictions to avoid parking tickets and ensure your street is plowed when snow routes are declared.
- Get snow route notifications to your mobile device by downloading the free Lethbridge Loop app.
- Households who are interested in WAS are reminded to sign up by calling 311 before Friday, October 10.
The postcards will be hand-delivered by the City and our partners at Ability Resource Centre, who are excited to help spread the word about WAS to the people who need it most.
Each postcard will include a unique code that snow route residents can use to enter to win a roadside safety kit — just a little thank-you for thinking about snow while it’s still summer!
Call 311 to sign up for the Windrow Assistance Service
We’re asking snow route residents who need windrow assistance to sign up early each year. This subscription-based service helps residents with accessibility and mobility challenges by clearing snow windrows that form along curbs and driveways when roads are plowed.
- Snow route residents are encouraged to learn about the service and if applicable, call 311 by the second Friday in October to sign up (October 10, 2025).
- During the call, we will provide service details and gather information to make sure the service is right for your home.
- Annual registration for WAS is required, even for those who signed up for the program last year.
- Early sign up helps make sure the service is ready to go for all subscribers before winter arrives.
Snow clearing practices were adjusted during the last three winter seasons and have resulted in significant cost savings with more residential roads plowed, more often. The City introduced WAS to help balance the financial benefits with community needs as an amendment made to Phase 2 of the Snow and Ice Control Changes. Following the conclusion of the 2025/26 winter season, feedback will be sought from all snow route residents and the findings will be reported back to City Council for review.
