Standardized hours at Waste & Recycling Centre
Starting November 1, the City of Lethbridge's Waste & Recycling Centre (WRC) will transition to standardized hours of operation. This shift will see the WRC open year-round, Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As part of the 2027 Operating Budget, City Council approved the elimination of extended summer hours at the WRC. This service change will save $82,000 in the City's operating budget.
Historically, the WRC has cycled between seasonal hours during summer and winter. It offered extended hours (open until 7 p.m.) in the summer to take advantage of longer days. Each winter, hours would revert back to normal, closing at 5 p.m. Standardizing hours of operation at the WRC will provide more consistency for residents and customers, making it easier to plan visits and know when it’s open.

In June 2026, Council unanimously approved the 2027 Operating Budget. It includes more than 40 budget reductions from City departments. These initiatives will help Lethbridge residents save money by minimizing property tax and utility rate increases.
