Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire in the 800 block of 20 Street North, at approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 20. The fire was reported by members of the Lethbridge Police Service, who saw smoke coming from the second floor of a multi-unit row housing complex.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from two windows of a middle unit on the second floor. Firefighters used hose lines to knock down the fire from the exterior before entering to complete extinguishment. The fire was prevented from spreading to the surrounding units.

No injuries were reported. The unit sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. The cause is under investigation.

LFES reminds residents to test their smoke alarms every month. Working smoke alarms provide an early warning that can save lives.
