Tell us it isn’t so… is it already time to talk snow?

It might seem too early to be talking about snow, but the City of Lethbridge is busy preparing for what Old Man Winter might bring our way. This includes communicating with residents on Lethbridge’s snow route system.

In the coming days, those living on a snow route can expect a letter from the City with important information about snow route activation and the Windrow Assistance Service (WAS).

Snow Route Activation

When there is heavy snowfall, the City’s transportation department will determine whether snow routes need to be plowed. When snow routes are declared active:

  • Vehicles must be moved off snow routes within 24 hours
  • Vehicles left on the street may receive a parking ticket and snow may be plowed around them

Stay in-the-know for all snow route notifications by signing up for the Lethbridge Loop App. You will also find snow route activation information on the City’s website www.lethbridge.ca/news or by following the City of Lethbridge on social media (Facebook, X and Instagram).

Windrow Assistance Service (WAS)

WAS helps residents who live on a snow route and have challenges clearing the snow piles (windrows) that may block driveways and sidewalks after plowing.

Eligibility:
  • Live on a snow route
  • Have mobility/accessibility challenges with no alternative supports
How the program works:
  • If you meet the eligibility criteria, please contact 311 to sign-up before Oct. 9, 2026
  • 311 will provide details and gather information to make sure the service is right for your home
  • Those subscribed will have City contractors come to clear the windrow within 72 hours of the snowfall ending
  • The program runs from November 1 – March 30 and is free of charge

Before the snow flies and flip-flops get traded for winter boots, residents are encouraged to learn about the snow route system and the City’s overall winter operations at lethbridge.ca/snow.
