Two residential structure fires under investigation

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services responded to two separate residential structure fires over the weekend.

On Sunday, September 20, at approximately 4 p.m., crews from three stations responded to a home in the 1800 block of 4 Avenue North. Twenty firefighters arrived and found a fire in the rear bedroom of the single-storey home. Crews contained the fire to the bedroom, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the home. No injuries were reported. 

On Monday, September 21, at approximately 12:50 a.m., crews from four stations responded to the 500 block of Columbia Boulevard West after neighbours noticed a fire and called 9-1-1. Crews arrived and found a detached two-car garage on fire. Crews contained and extinguished the fire. The garage and three vehicles were destroyed, and the fire caused significant damage to the duplex. 

The causes of both fires remain under investigation.  

Residents are reminded to check that smoke alarms are working on every level of the home. Test alarms monthly, replace batteries when needed and replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
