Weather causes minor shift to Canada Day activities

To avoid wet, muddy conditions and potential turf damage in Henderson Park, Canada Day organizers have made the decision to shift locations for some of this year’s activities.
Opening ceremonies and main stage entertainment will move inside the Lethbridge Trade and Convention Centre. Other activities like the youth market and military displays will be hosted on the north pad outside the facility’s front entrance, rather than in the park. Visitors may also want to bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor activities as sitting on the grass may not be ideal.
The City of Lethbridge and Excite Lethbridge have been working together to monitor event conditions and implement contingency plans for this year’s Canada Day celebration, ensuring it is fun for everyone.
With more favourable weather in the forecast for Canada Day, everyone is optimistic that many of the activities can still be enjoyed outdoors. However, this move will ensure the entertainment is a go, regardless of what Mother Nature has planned, while mitigating damage to the park from heavy foot traffic and loaded vehicles.
The wet conditions have also created the ideal mosquitoes breeding ground so remember your bug spray!

Don’t forget, the fireworks will also blast off above Henderson Lake at 11 p.m., weather permitting.
