  • At its annual Organizational Meeting, Lethbridge City Council passed changes to the Standing Policy Committees (SPC); set the 2024 Council and Standing Policy Committee Calendar; confirmed administration, organizational, Council and public appointments to its Boards, Commissions and Committees (BCC); and to officially rescind the Ward Boundary Commission Bylaw.   • From an Official Business Motion from Councillor Jenn Schmidt-Rempel, Council voted to direct Administration to complete a childcare needs assessment. It is to include in-depth background research, thorough analysis and benchmarking of the current childcare landscape; key stakeholder engagement; and the formulation of recommendations to address challenges related to increasing the number of childcare spaces within the city. Council also voted to approve the allocation of up to $25,000 from Council Contingencies to fund consulting resources to support the development of the outlined childcare needs assessment. As part of the OBM, Administration is to report back to Council by Q2 2024. Read the full news release here
  • From an Official Business Motion from Councillor Rajko Dodic, Council voted to direct Administration to: 1. Compile a list of all properties located in Lethbridge (whether residential, commercial, industrial or vacant lands) that may be unsafe and/or dangerous and which may potentially be subject to an Order allowed by sections 545 and 546 of the MGA and Bylaw 5747; 2. Provide recommendations for steps or measures that may be taken by the City of Lethbridge to address the safety issues or concerns that may be identified; 3. Identify any funding or resources that may be required; 4. Report back to Council by the end of Q1, 2024
  • With the Consent Agenda approval, Council voted in favour of proceeding with an Animal Bylaw Review, with the Community Wellbeing and Safety Strategy – Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Allocation Request, and with the Community Wellbeing and Safety Strategy – Reaching Home (RH) Allocation Request
