Helping you stay cool and keep a River Valley park safe
Keeping cool and safe in Indian Battle Park has never been… cooler!
The Parks team is excited to announce four new public water faucets. The auto-shutoff taps are located on the exteriors of the park’s four washroom buildings. These water stations are part of our ongoing efforts to improve park amenities and promote public health and safety.

“We’re proud to offer these new waterspouts to make the park more accessible and comfortable, especially during the hotter months,” says Craig Richter, Parks Project Manager. “They’re here, in part, to help you, or perhaps a pet, stay hydrated during your visit.”
The new spigots can also be used to safely extinguish cooking fires. The recent rain and cooler temperatures have ended the fire ban in the River Valley. Open fires are now allowed in designated areas. However, conditions can change quickly, and park visitors must exercise caution when having fires.
"The fire risk this season is unusually high,” says Chief Fire Marshal, Troy Hicks. “One small spark is all it takes to cause a wildfire. We are asking everyone to help us prevent that by following the rules and checking fire bans before having a fire in the river valley. It is a shared responsibility."
Fire ban information and park regulations can be found here.
In the meantime, here’s how you can make the most of the new water spigots:
- Stay hydrated: Whether you’re walking, running, biking or just relaxing, clean drinking water is now more accessible. And this includes your four-legged friends! Make sure your pets are also hydrated and not overheated.
- Refill your bottles: Help reduce plastic waste by using refillable containers.
- Keep cool: On hot days, take breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water to avoid heat-related illness.
By using the park responsibly, you’re helping protect our natural spaces and everyone who enjoys them.
