Highway 3 accident cleared after extended recovery operation

Incident cleared. Drive safe: slow down, give space, plan ahead.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) has cleared the scene of yesterday’s collision involving two tractor trailers on the westbound Highway 3 bridge.

The incident began shortly before 6 p.m. and required crews to remain on site until 1 a.m. to support the safe offloading and recovery of the vehicles. An extensive cleanup was needed due to the cargo, which included food products. Fortunately, no hazardous materials entered the river.

Motorists are reminded to:

  • Give yourself space and time – keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and slow down so you can react safely.
  • Slow down and move over when passing emergency vehicles with lights activated.
  • Follow instructions from emergency responders.
  • Plan ahead and consider alternative routes to avoid congestion and reduce risk.

To help plan your route, live traffic cameras are available 24/7 with views of Highway 3 and Whoop Up Drive. Check them anytime here.

Your cooperation is essential to keeping our first responders and fellow drivers safe. LFES thanks the public for their patience during this prolonged response.
