Interchange improvement project moves into phase four

A major interchange improvement project is ready for its next phase.

On Wednesday, July 8, the Whoop-Up Drive/Scenic Drive Interchange Improvement will shift to the 400 block of Scenic Drive South. This phase includes a new sidewalk along the east side of Scenic Drive South. Both driving lanes along northbound Scenic Drive South will remain open, but there are other impacts:

  • The east sidewalk along Scenic Drive South will be closed. A pedestrian detour will be in place.
  • The northbound bus stop at the intersection of Scenic Drive and 5 Avenue will be closed. Anyone accessing Route 1 Gold, Route 2 Blue or Route 60 can access the bus one block north, at Scenic Drive South and 4 Avenue South.

Signage will be in place throughout the area to guide motorists and pedestrians during these closures.

This next step bypasses Phase Three, which involves intersection improvements at Scenic Drive South and 5 Avenue South. That work will be completed later. Meanwhile, work on Phases One and Two continues.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in November 2026. Updates will be shared throughout construction. More information, including phase-by-phase design plans and timelines, is available on the Get Involved Lethbridge webpage.
