Phase five set to begin for major interchange improvement project

A major interchange improvement project is ready for Phase Five.

On Friday, July 17, the Whoop-Up Drive/Scenic Drive Interchange Improvement expands one block north. The work will continue along the east side of the 300 block of Scenic Drive South, including new streetlights. Both driving lanes along northbound Scenic Drive will remain open.

This phase includes three noteworthy impacts:

  • The east sidewalk along Scenic Drive will be closed. A pedestrian detour will be in place.
  • The northbound bus stop in the 300 block of Scenic Drive will be closed. This impacts anyone accessing Route 1 Sherring or Route 2 Southgate. The route will detour to eastbound 4 Avenue South, then to northbound 3 Street South, then resume its normal route along eastbound 3 Avenue. A temporary stop will be located on the east side of 3 Street, between 4 Avenue and 3 Avenue.
  • Access to the Andrew Hilton/Wooden Shoe parking lot, from Scenic Drive, will be closed.

Signage will be in place throughout the area to guide motorists and pedestrians during these closures.

Meanwhile, work on Phases One, Two and Four continues.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in November 2026. Updates will be shared throughout construction. More information, including phase-by-phase design plans and timelines, is available on the Get Involved Lethbridge webpage.
