Simplifying Parkland Access Permits
Have you ever asked yourself: “I wonder if I’m allowed to stake down this giant bouncy castle in the green space across the street?” Well, wonder no more!
A new City of Lethbridge webpage makes it faster and easier to apply for a Parkland Access Permit. (Also… spoiler alert… there’s no charge!) The permit is required whenever vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers or machinery need to enter or cross City-owned parkland.
What exactly is parkland, you ask? Good question. It includes:
- parks and green spaces
- pathway corridors
- natural areas and environmental reserves
- City-maintained boulevards and landscaped areas
Parkland Access Permits provide safe access to your property or special event in a park space. Parks staff can help identify risks and minimize damage to ensure our parkland stays safe and in good condition for the public.
Many common activities require a permit, such as:
- backyard construction projects
- hot tub or shed deliveries
- fence installations
- landscaping work
- special events, including weddings and festivals
Parkland access is weather dependent. If the ground is too saturated, vehicles and equipment may not be allowed. It may also impact activities that require equipment to be staked into the ground, such as tents or bouncy castles. Site conditions are assessed prior to access or installation, and modifications, delays, relocations or cancellations may be required.
Applications can be submitted by contractors, property owners or special event organizers. Residents are encouraged to apply at least five days before a planned project or event.
