Parkland Access Permit

A Parkland Access Permit is required for any project or special event where vehicular access onto City of Lethbridge parkland is necessary. This includes parks, pathways, green spaces, boulevards and other City-owned spaces.

Vehicular access to City parkland without a permit is prohibited.

Please submit your application at least five days before your planned project or event begins. There is no fee for this permit.

When do you need a permit?

A permit is required whenever motorized vehicles or heavy equipment must enter or cross City parkland. This includes cars, pickup trucks, trailers and construction equipment.

Vehicular access to City parkland must be avoided whenever possible and is only permitted when no reasonable alternative exists.

Parkland access may be required for:

  • Backyard construction
  • Hot tub or shed deliveries
  • Fence installation
  • Landscaping projects
  • Special events, such as weddings, festivals, etc.

By getting a permit, Parks staff can help identify risks and minimize damage to ensure our parkland stays in good condition and safe for the public.

Who can apply?

Applications may be submitted by:

  • The contractor completing the work
  • The property owner, if completing the work themselves
  • The event organizer or their designated representative, if hosting a special event

Irrigation lines will be marked by the City via this application process and must be avoided at all times. Damage to irrigation lines could result in flooding, property damage, service disruptions and safety hazards.
