Pavan Park

Pavan Park is a 125 hectare natural park on the city’s northern edge. The park contains over 10km of paved and aggregate walking and hiking trails and is the only park that allows horseback riding within the city. Pavan is home to diverse plant and wildlife populations including deer, porcupine, raccoons, coyotes, rabbits, geese, loons and many more, making the area perfect for photos, a stroll, hiking or simply to escape the city without traveling far.

Bring a lunch and head to the Jean Sauve picnic area on the north end of the park, with tables, summer washrooms, large nature themed playground, horseshoe pits and more trails to discover, there is something for everyone to explore in Pavan Park. Please note that washrooms are seasonal and closed during winter months.

Pavan Park is also home to the John Martin Picnic area which must be booked through Recreation and Culture. The John Martin Picnic site boasts a fenced enclosure with covered eating area, kitchen, washrooms, fireplace, and large outdoor cooking grills, and is located north of the west parking lot at the end of the road.

Pavan Park is a favorite pull out area for river explorers and floaters, with concrete stairs built into the riverbank just north of the John Martin Picnic Shelter and rocky outcropping to facilitate easier exits from the river after a toasty afternoon float.

The John Martin Picnic Area or other picnic sites in Lethbridge must be booked through Recreation & Culture.
