Things to know when hot summer temperatures hit Lethbridge

As we head deeper into the hot months of July and August, the City of Lethbridge is sharing a reminder of resources available to help residents stay cool and safe.

City resources and information:

  • Public water stations are available in Nicholas Sheran Park, Legacy Park, Henderson Lake Park and Galt Gardens downtown. The stations hook up to hydrants, providing a continuous water source
  • Local pools are open, including Henderson Outdoor Pool
  • Spray parks at Legacy Regional Park and the Rotary Centennial Fountain at Galt Gardens are open, as well as Gyro Spray Park (located behind Nicholas Sheran Leisure Centre)
  • Be cautious if smoking in the river valley and dispose of butts properly, or avoid smoking in the area altogether
  • Monitor for information on local fire bans
  • During operating hours, City of Lethbridge facilities are open to the public to seek reprieve from the sun

Things to be mindful of:

  • Voluntary water conservation efforts are still encouraged. Visit lethbridge.ca/waterconservation to learn more
  • Be mindful of the use of electric appliances and keep air-conditioning units at a moderate temperature to help prevent overloading the power grid

How to report encampments:

If you observe an encampment or conditions that may present a fire or safety risk, you are encouraged to report it:

Other local resources:

Vulnerable members of our community are most at-risk during extreme temperatures. The following is a list of local service organizations that are available to help during the hot weather:

  • Lethbridge Wellness Shelter and Stabilization Unit
  • Wood’s Homes Lethbridge Youth Shelter and Opportunity Hub
  • Streets Alive Mission
  • Diversion Outreach Team (403-892-3707)
  • Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch
  • Lethbridge Soup Kitchen
  • SAGE Clan

Additional resources:

In tandem with the public water stations, several local organizations have partnered on a water drive to ensure water is available to those in need. The City of Lethbridge has pledged up to $3,000 to support this initiative. Resources will be distributed, as needed, by a variety of outreach groups in the community. Donations are also welcomed and appreciated at Interfaith Food Bank, Lethbridge Food Bank and Streets Alive.
