The Whoop-Up ramp-up is almost ready

Expanded access to Whoop-Up Drive is nearing completion.

Phase one of the Whoop-Up Drive/Scenic Drive Interchange Improvement includes a second lane added to the on-ramp from Scenic Drive South onto Whoop-Up Drive. This upgrade is similar to the existing on-ramp from northbound University Drive West to Whoop-Up Drive.

Beginning today, crews are placing asphalt on the ramp widening. There may be short traffic impacts for trucks turning into and leaving the work area. Motorists are asked to obey all signage and watch for a flag person directing traffic.

Milling and paving of the new lane begins Monday, August 24. Once complete, traffic will move to that lane while milling and paving is done on the existing lane. Traffic will remain on the new lane while phase eight of the project is completed in the coming weeks. Phase eight includes a crosswalk with overhead flashing lights and improved wheelchair access at the entrance to the on-ramp.

Several phases of the project are underway. The entire project is scheduled for completion in November 2026. Updates will be shared throughout construction. More information, including phase-by-phase design plans and timelines, is available on the Get Involved Lethbridge webpage.
