City Hall Lighting

City hall light up in pride coloursThe City of Lethbridge uses lighting at City Hall to help amplify significant local events, activities and causes. We do not issue proclamations to mark events, issues or occasions, but instead encourage community members to request a City Hall lighting.

Request lighting

To request a City Hall lighting for a specific cause or event, please submit a City Hall lighting request form below. Lighting requests are approved based on specific criteria and guidelines.

We accept requests four months in advance of the date of the request and all requests must be submitted with at least two weeks notice.

For us to be able to approve your lighting request, you must be a not-for-profit organization or cause whose request supports:

  • An event of exceptional local, national or international significance and/or achievement
  • A local festival or event that positively impacts community spirit
  • A local, national or international awareness issue that builds community or is related to community health

Preference is given to requests made by organizations with a local Lethbridge connection. Applicants are responsible for all forms of publicity for the lighting.

We reserve the right to deny requests. We will not consider lighting requests for:

  • Commercial purposes
  • Organizations that are deemed inappropriate or offensive in nature
  • Personal or private occasions, such as birthdays or anniversaries
  • Political events or observances
  • Religious figures or organizations
  • Topics linked to business currently before Council
  • Topics that are contentious and risk reputational damage to the City

We will do our best to fulfill your colour request, but the exact hue may not be possible. We will use the closest hue that we can achieve through LEDs. We cannot light City Hall with browns or blacks at any time.
