What initially started as way to explore creativity outside of caring for her two children, has become a labour of love for one Lethbridge resident.

Collaboration and community are at the heart of a partnership which has seen several City departments and community partners work to create a warm ‘welcome home’ to new immigrants.

Since the beginning of the Fall 2022 semester, eight University of Lethbridge students participated in five applied studies projects as part of an emerging Work Integrated Learning (WIL) partnership between the City of Lethbridge and the University of Lethbridge’s Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy.

Historic places are important to our understanding of who we are and where we came from. They also contribute to our quality of life and our economy. Lethbridge/Sikóóhkotok is home to nearly 30 Municipal Historic Resources, more than a dozen Provincial Historic Resources, four National Historic Events, one National Historic Person and more than 100 archaeological sites. The City of Lethbridge Heritage Management Plan (HMP) was developed in 2007 to establish a framework for the City to protect Lethbridge's diverse Historic Places now and for the future. Lethbridge City Council recently voted unanimously to approve an updated 2023 HMP with several key updates.

In early spring, the City of Lethbridge will be introducing curbside organics for houses that currently have black and blue cart collection. To help roll out the new program, we are looking for Lethbridge students to help name our waste, recycling and organic collection truck fleet. 

​Downtown Lethbridge has a rich and storied history. With a diverse past of railways, coal mining, industry, commerce and residences – the area west of 5 Street South, between 3 Avenue South and Park Place Shopping Centre, may stand out more than others. In recognition of this assorted and unique collection of pastimes, the City of Lethbridge's Heart of Our City Committee, Historic Places Advisory Committee and the Lethbridge Historical Society have recently partnered to fund and produce a new historical interpretive sign.

When Dr. Garland Jonker first moved to southern Alberta 12 years ago to complete his residency, he and his wife immediately realized that Lethbridge was the ideal place to raise a family while also advancing their professions.
