Road and Facility Closures

Peak hour lane changes will address significant congestion on Whoop-Up Drive. Ongoing inspections confirm it is now safe to move forward with this change.

The 2025 edition of Whoop-Up Days will officially begin with the traditional parade on Tuesday, August 19. Starting at 9 a.m. from Park Place Shopping Centre, the parade will proceed south on 3 Street South, east along 3 Avenue South out of the downtown area, turn north along 13 Street and then east along 9 Avenue North, ending at Galbraith Elementary School.

Some of the top bridge experts in Canada have been engaged and have advised the City of Lethbridge that Whoop-Up Drive remains safe for motorists.

Effective immediately, heavy load trucks (excluding standard pickups) are temporarily restricted from crossing westbound on Whoop-Up Drive. All heavy load trucks must use Highway 3. The restriction is being made out of an abundance of caution.

A fresh new route is coming to south Lethbridge!

Construction is moving forward on Pathway 17. The multi-use trail will run along 43 Street South and South Parkside Drive South. Construction begins on Monday, August 11, and includes traffic disruptions and detours.

Paved lane rehabilitation work this weekend will impact commuters on a stretch of Scenic Drive North. 

Motorists using Whoop-Up Drive for their daily commute will be facing some additional traffic challenges following an incident yesterday. 

Maintenance work is set to take place this week on the Stafford Drive overpass above Crowsnest Trail, weather permitting. 

Starting today, August 5, there will be a series of partial road closures on 7 Street South, between 3 Avenue and 4 Avenue, to allow for the re-addition of on-street parking stalls.

A deep service installation, near the southwest corner of Galt Gardens, will impact motorists and pedestrians after the Heritage Day long weekend.
