A series of recommendations from last month’s annual budget review have now been officially carried by Lethbridge City Council.

Preparations are already underway for the next municipal election, scheduled for October 20, 2025. We invited all current Council members to share their thoughts on the first three years of this term. We wrap this series with Mayor Blaine Hyggen, who was first elected to Council in 2013, re-elected in 2017 and then won the Mayoral race in 2021.

As the holiday season approaches, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) reminds residents to take simple precautions to ensure safety and prevent fires. December is one of the busiest months for home fires, but many can be prevented by taking simple precautions with cooking, decorating and home safety. 

After lengthy discussions and evaluating multiple options, City Council has decided to use both contingency funding and surplus dollars from the current budget to support the operations of Lethbridge & District Exhibition (LDE).

Lethbridge City Hall will be closed for a portion of the holiday season.

Crews are working to repair a water main break in the 100 Block of 1 Avenue South.  

The outside eastbound lane of 1 Avenue South, as it approaches Scenic Drive South, is closed. The inside eastbound lane and both westbound lanes remain open. 

This month marks an important milestone in Lethbridge public service: 100 years since the first women were elected to office.

In December 1924, Susan Bawden and Mary McClenaghan won election to the Lethbridge Public School Board.

Today, Mayor Blaine Hyggen presented Cardiologist, Dr. Sayeh Zielke with a Key to the City in recognition of her tireless work to improve and advance cardiac care in southern Alberta.

Starting April 1 next year, residents will see a reduction in their curbside recycling collection fees. No fooling!
