As Labour Day is set to usher in the unofficial end of summer, one group of local students is already reminiscing about a memorable trip earlier this season. Five students aged 14-16 recently completed the 57th Saint-Laurent exchange. A delegation from Saint-Laurent, Quebec, first travelled to Lethbridge from July 10–17, followed by the Lethbridge delegation travelling to Saint-Laurent from August 7–14.
The final long weekend of the summer is on the horizon. While many residents and visitors will flock to Henderson Lake Park, the City of Lethbridge is reminding everyone to be mindful of the Cyanobacteria advisory in effect for the lake.
Traffic signal work will cause traffic delays at a busy intersection on Thursday, August 29.
Two of three southbound lanes of Mayor Magrath Drive South, at 5 Avenue South, will close at 5 a.m. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be complete by 5:30 p.m.
City staff at the Waste and Recycling Centre have seen an increase in hazardous materials received from residential blue carts in recent weeks. Multiple cans of bear spray have been found by staff in the last week, with one can rupturing. This caused an evacuation of the recycling facility, with some staff feeling the effects of the spray.
“You didn’t have to ask Neil for help. If he saw you needed assistance, he was right there. Often with a smile and encouragement.”
Kind words from Peter Burns, remembering his neighbour Neil Talbot. Peter nominated Neil posthumously, as part of the City’s Mighty Neighbours: Summer Edition program.
It’s almost time for Whoop-Up Days! With a direct tie-in to Lethbridge’s biggest festival, I’m happy to announce the return of the Mayor’s Community Barbecue for a third year. It will take place on Tuesday, August 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. outside Lethbridge City Hall on 4 Avenue, following the Whoop-Up Days parade.
