Rufa Doria, Councillor

Councillor Rufa Doria, PhD, is a multi-hyphenate engineer, entrepreneur and community leader. Her field of expertise is in agriculture and irrigation, and she holds a Doctorate degree in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University. Before her Doctorate, she was a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for her Master’s Degree at Colorado State University. She also earned an NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) Post-doctoral Fellowship Award, which led to her involvement in interdisciplinary projects internationally.

She has practiced in her field in both industry and academia, including posts at Lethbridge Research Centre, the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic. She also served as a member of the Alberta Irrigation Council between 2018-2021 where she worked alongside fellow tribunal members to support Alberta’s farmers and agricultural businesses.

In 2016, Councillor Doria embarked on her entrepreneurial journey after passing the licensure examination by the College of Immigrant Consultants of Canada (CICC) to become a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant. She is the current CEO and co-founder of the Doria And Doria (DAD) Canada Immigration Consulting Inc, which she built together with her husband.

Councillor Doria served as the President of the Filipino-Canadian Association of Lethbridge, Alberta (FCALA) from 2016-2019, where she supported community events and advocated for the Filipino diaspora in Lethbridge. From 2018-2019, Councillor Doria also served as the Vice-President of the Southern Alberta Ethnic Association (SAEA), an organization which promotes multiculturalism and celebrates the diversity in Lethbridge. For her community service, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for Alberta in 2022.

In addition to her councillor position, Rufa volunteers as a Senate member at the University of Lethbridge, which provides support to help ensure that the university achieves its strategic directions and plans.

Councillor Doria sits on the Assets and Infrastructure and Governance Standing Policy Committees, as well as the Council representative for the Green Acres Foundation and Inter-municipal Committee (City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County).
