Galt Gardens Master Plan

The city of Lethbridge’s Galt Gardens Master Plan was created by request of the Heart of our City Committee [link to page] to guide the reconstruction of the oldest park in the city, Galt Gardens.

To develop the Galt Gardens Master Plan, we gathered background information and consulted with key stakeholders as well as the public. We also conducted a geotechnical study, site survey and site visits to assess the park’s existing conditions.

Phases of development

Through consultation with various internal and external stakeholders as well as our project consultants, we developed a design concept for Galt Gardens that included three phases of development:

  • Phase One – creating primary pathways, planting new trees and memorial gardens and installing a new kiosk, restroom and storage
  • Phase Two – creating secondary pathways, relocating the locomotive, planting new trees, installing a water feature and additional kiosks and constructing a new pavilion and new, enhanced plazas
  • Phase Three – redeveloping the existing plaza within the existing pergola and installing a tensile fabric roof structure and an additional kiosk

Project development

Staff from Planning, Parks and Facility Services departments worked alongside project consultants as well as internal and community stakeholders to participate in project development.
