Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan

The City of Lethbridge develops various Area Redevelopment Plans (ARPs) to guide future development and protect the character of older neighbourhoods in our community. Our Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) was designed to guide development in our downtown from 2013 to 2023 to create a vibrant and walkable neighbourhood.

The DARP aligns with the goals in the Municipal Development Plan and the vision outlined in our Heart of the City Master Plan.

Objectives and strategies

The DARP aims to create a lively, accessible downtown where people enjoy working, living, and playing. The DARP accounts for a wide range of policy areas, including:

  • Heritage resource preservation
  • Infrastructure renewal and replacement
  • Land use and urban design
  • Livability and public realm
  • Sustainability
  • Traffic circulation and mobility and parking

The DARP also aims to recommend capital projects for Council to consider for future Capital Improvement Programs (CIPs). We have developed monitoring and evaluation strategies to ensure priority projects are administered and executed.
