Adopt-A-Park Program

What You Can Adopt

Volunteers can adopt a variety of public spaces across the city, including:

  • Parks and playgrounds
  • Dog parks and sportsfields
  • Green strips and pathways
  • Shrub or flower beds
  • Cemeteries

Adopting a space means helping keep it clean, safe and beautiful for everyone who visits.

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers contribute in a range of hands-on ways, including:

  • Litter pickup
  • Dog waste pickup
  • Weed control
  • Spreading mulch
  • Shrub and flower bed maintenance
  • Reporting damage or vandalism in the area

All tasks are flexible and can be done on your schedule.

Ways to Get Involved

Adopt-A-Park

Choose a park, green space or cemetery that matters to you. This is a great option for long-term, ongoing stewardship. Keep in mind you set your own schedule and there is no minimum time commitment.

One-Time Litter Cleanup

Perfect for businesses, school groups, sports teams or volunteer days. A one-time cleanup is an easy and rewarding way to give back—especially as a team-building activity.

Neighbourhood Cleanup

Improve your neighbourhood by organizing a community cleanup. The City can support your group with bags, gloves and tips for organizing a successful cleanup event.

Upcoming Volunteer Events

The Adopt‑A‑Park Program works alongside City environmental events throughout the year. Join us and help keep the community clean and green:

Join us for our fourth annual Earth Day Community Cleanup on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at Legacy Park:

  • Community litter cleanup
  • Adopt-A-Park registration
  • Learn about climate adaptation and sustainability
  • Family friendly activities

May is Dog Waste Awareness Month!

Join us in cleaning up our five dog parks. Volunteers will pick up dog doo doo and replace it with a flag. The flags create a great visual of the amount of dog waste not picked up and will be removed after a week.

Join us every Thursday in May, from 6 – 7 p.m.:

  • May 7: Scenic Drive Dog Run
  • May 14: Popson Park Off Leash Dog Run
  • May 21: Peenaquim Park Off Leash Dog Park
  • May 28: Park 'n' Bark

*Cleanup may be cancelled due to rain

Community park cleanups will be planned throughout the year. Stay tuned for dates and locations!

Volunteer with us at the third annual Run to Remember on September 27, 2026, at Mountain View Cemetery.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteer Check-In: Check in volunteers as they arrive, provide them with a safety vest.

  • Refreshment Stations: Help hand out refreshments at the end of the race.
  • Start/Finish Line: Ensure participants are lined up for the correct race and hand out medals once they cross the finish line.
